Strengthening Communities to Fight Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminths Diseases in Kano State.

HANDS Nigeria is delighted to announce the successful completion of our recent training program for over seven thousand Community Directed Distributors (CDDs) in Kano State, Nigeria. This initiative, generously funded by Sightsavers, aimed to equip CDDs across 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminths.

In our endeavor to combat these disabling illnesses, it is vital to train dedicated individuals to serve as frontline healthcare providers in their communities. Particularly crucial is the outreach to children aged five to fourteen, who are highly vulnerable to these diseases. With the training received, CDDs are now more adept at administering vital medication and delivering essential health education within their communities.

The significance of this training not only guarantees the successful execution of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) but also encourages community involvement and responsibility in the healthcare process. By equipping local volunteers with the essential knowledge and skills, we are nurturing sustainable solutions to the challenges presented by Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminths.

As the CDDs begin their journey to distribute medication and educate their communities, we hold firm confidence that their commitment will result in substantial enhancements to the health and welfare of the population. Together, with the support of Sightsavers and the dedication of our trained CDDs, we are making significant progress towards a future where Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminths no longer pose a threat to the children of Kano State.
